02 Jun Henley Business Angels Member Invests in ReBorn, a consumer products company turning plastic waste into stylish homeware products
ReBorn, a recycled homewares company giving waste materials a new lease of life, has received investment from one Henley Business Angels member, contributing towards a funding round of £412k.
In the UK alone, the homewares market is worth around £7 billion, and whilst the products are eye-catching and in demand, they are primarily made from virgin materials, imported from Asia, that are non-recyclable at end of life, leading them to landfill. The result of this is high carbon emissions, unsustainable use of raw materials and unnecessary landfill. The practices prevent existing manufacturers from easily adopting more sustainable processes, too.
ReBorn has a solution and is the world’s first homeware brand made entirely from UK waste. Reborn manufactures its products in the UK from recycled materials that can also be recycled again at the product’s end of life – creating a true circular life. This approach results in lower carbon emissions, less landfill and supports the local economy. The range launched in all John Lewis stores in September 2022, and since then, ReBorn has already used over 20 tonnes of waste from landfill and saved more than 280 tonnes of carbon emissions (Source: Brunel University).
Currently offering a range of 8 kitchen products and a bathroom range, ReBorn are in the process of developing even more products for 2025-26. The investment raised is being used to continue their expansion, not only in product range but in retailer presence and into additional countries in Europe.
Brain Walmsley, Founder and CEO of ReBorn, was excited to welcome the investment from the network, saying “ReBorn is a unique opportunity to address a large market gap, for the benefit of people and planet. Delighted to welcome David & the HBA network to be a part of this incredible journey!”
David Griffiths, HBA member said of his investment in ReBorn “I see a smart intelligent ambitious entrepreneur who knows this industry really well, has done something very similar before (EKO), is a first mover with something highly differentiated and built a strong brand. I believe my investment will double or triple over the next 5 years. Secondly, I have seen and spoken with lots of entrepreneurs and Brian is rare and should be supported where possible.”
Chris Rees, HBA Co-Managing Director, was delighted by the investment, saying “ReBorn has found a very practical and sustainable solution to plastic waste. It’s growing pipeline of potential customers shows the appeal of the products to the consumer and its new product pipeline bodes well for growth in the future.”
