Henley Business Angels (HBA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Emma Gibson as Chair of the Executive Committee of Henley Business Angels.

In her role as chair of the Executive Committee, Emma will take responsibility for leading the Executive Committee and representing the HBA membership on the board of Henley Business Angels Limited as Non-Executive Director.

Emma joins HBA with a distinguished career as an entrepreneur and lawyer and the board is delighted to have Emma involved with the HBA, where she will be able to apply her experience to help HBA grow (and have fun doing it!).

Emma’s background is that she heads up the corporate group in the Thames Valley office of Shoosmiths, a national law firm which advises entrepreneurs and early-stage businesses on the legal issues vital to get their concept off the ground and, from there, through the business cycle from start-up through to second stage funding, IP protection, share incentives, tax planning and beyond.

Emma specialises in corporate finance, with particular emphasis on private equity, M&A, management buy outs/ins, corporate reconstructions and fund raisings.

Emma acts for both private and public companies on all aspects of fund raising, whether through debt, equity or via the capital markets.

Emma joined Shoosmiths in 2002, having been previously with a large regional firm. Prior to qualification, she ran her own business in the leisure sector for 6 years and therefore brings considerable practical commercial experience to her role.

Emma was formerly a director of the Thames Valley and Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership and chaired the ‘Access to Finance’ Forum, working with representatives of Government, BIS, banks, Angel networks and other VCT/EIS investment funds to facilitate an SME’s access to finance.

Emma is ‘recommended’ in both Legal 500 and Chambers and won ‘Lawyer of the Year’ in the Thames Valley Deal Awards 2013 and 2015.

In 2014 Emma was listed in The Lawyer as a Hot 100 Lawyer.  Published annually, the Hot 100 recognises individuals who have contributed significantly to the legal world and enhanced the reputations of the law firms for which they work.
